30 January 2026The National Qualifications Unit of TNQAB is currently taking the lead in the development of three new national qualifications in Sustainable Energy:
- National Certificate in Sustainable Energy (Energy Efficieny) Level 3 (NCSEL3(EE))
- National Certificate in Sustainable Energy (Solar) Level 3; and
- National Certificate in Sustainable Energy (Hybrid-wind) Level 3 (NCSEL3(HW))
This is Phase 2 of a bigger project which started in 2020, in which TNQAB works collaboratively with the Pacific Community’s (SPC) Pacific Center for Renewable Energy and Enegry Efficiency (PCREEE) and the Tonga Department of Energy, to adapt Regional qualifications which have already been accredited by SPC’s Educational Quality and Assessment Program (EQAP) and registered on the Pacific Regjster of Qualifications and Standards (PQRS). Phase 1 of this project ended with two national qualifications (NCSEL1 and NCSEL2) which are currently being delivered by the Tonga Institute of Science and Technology (TIST).
Today, Vilimaka Foliaki, from TNQAB, and the three developers of the three new qualifications, went on national television to inform the public of this new development. These three new level 3 qualifications will be available for delivery by as early as July 2023.
Phase 3 will involve the development of level 4 qualifications thus completing adequate foundation for higher level studies in the area of Sustainable Energy.
Malo lahi to PCREEE, Tonga Department of Energy, and the Tonga Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) for the excellent partnership.
