30 March 2026The National Qualification Division’s first TV program for the year was recorded on the 25th of March, 2026. It focused on the completion of the review of the National Certificate in Sustainable Energy Level 1 and National Certificate in Sustainable Energy Level 2 qualification descriptors and unit descriptors.
This is a requirement of the TNQAB ACT 2020 Part iv, that the review shall include the investigation of the 2 (b) standard of educational content of the approved course of study and 2(c) appropriateness of the qualification. This work was initiated in February and completed in March this year. This is a result of the combined efforts of the developer (Department of Energy, MEIDECC and PECREEE) and the ITAC members of Sustainable Energy with guidance from TNQAB.
The ITAC members for this review included a representative from the Department of Energy (MEIDECC), Tonga Power Limited (TPL), Tonga Energy Commission (TEC), and The School of Science and Technology (SST) of the Tonga National University (TNU). Mr. Samiuela Matakaiongo (Principal Energy Planner of the Department of Energy (MEIDECC) and Mr. Sosefo Tofu (Energy Specialist of the Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE)) represented the ITAC members of the Sustainable Energy review team for this TV program recording. During the program, the presenters outlined that this review was a response to a national need in Sustainable Energy.
Furthermore, there were significant areas identified during the review and their importance to the National development in the field of Sustainable Energy. Finally, the presenters emphasized their ongoing planning and partnership between the Sustainable Energy sector and its stakeholders in providing opportunities for education and employment.
