Online education is a mode of teaching and learning delivered through digital or internet-based technologies, allowing learners and educators to interact remotely.
An online training provider is a legally established institution that delivers education or training primarily through online or digital technologies, enabling learners to study remotely. Examples include online universities and online community colleges.
Any mention of the name of any institution on the TNQAB website does not necessarily constitute endorsement, accreditation, or formal recognition by TNQAB.
The purpose of this page is solely to assist individuals (especially the people in Tonga and Tongans abroad) in their search for legally established online educational institutions.
Users of this page need to take note of the difference between:
- Legally registered by a government or education authority, and;
- Accreditation by a recognized accrediting agency or quality assurance body.
It is very important to note that some “online universities” are legally registered as companies (i.e. businesses) but are not academically recognized. A legally registered business alone does not mean the institution is academically legitimate.
Only legally registered online training providers have the potential for official recognition in Tonga.
Note that the legal status, recognition, or accreditation of institutions may change over time, including after the publication of this page. Accordingly, individuals are strongly encouraged to conduct their own independent research and verification to ensure that the information obtained is accurate and up to date
Good Practice when checking an online institution, always verify:
- Government registration (local or overseas)
- Accreditation status (local or overseas)
- Whether the accreditor itself is legitimate
- Recognition by a national accreditor or quality assurance agency
- Whether qualifications are accepted for employment and further study
Institutions and individuals who are interested in TNQAB accreditation of online education can complete an Expression of Interest Form and submit to TNQAB for processing.
